General Information:

 

Objectives:

  1. Understand the anatomy and physiology of the human body as it relates to health.

  2. Connect concepts of health science to applicable examples of activities of daily living.

  3. Analyse the material and data in correlation with applied knowledge to solve sample problems.

Classroom Policies

Classroom Conduct:

  1. Respect: All students are expected to uphold the highest level of respect for the instructor, their peers and themselves in all aspects of class participation.

  2. Language: Profanity will not be tolerated and will result in a 15 min detention if used.

  3. Eye Contact: It is expected that students remained focused during class which will be observed through maintaining eye contact with their instructor or peer while talking.

  4. Posture: While in class students are expected to sit up at their desk with no leaning on the tables, no rocking in chairs and no resting their heads against the desk.

  5. Relevancy: All contributions to the classroom discussion must be relevant to the topic, build upon a comment or focus on a detail. Derailing or distracting comments will receive a warning and potential disciplinary action.

  6. Three Strikes: If a student is disruptive during class the name will be written on the board as a warning. Following this two additional strikes will be given with regards to a 15 min detention for the first and a 45 min detention for the second with disciplinary dismissal from the class.

 

Computer Policy:

  1. No drinks near the computers

  2. No alterations to the computer

  3. No downloads

  4. Use assigned computer

 

Textbook Policy:

  1. Use assigned textbook

  2. Report all prior damage

  3. Students will be held accountable for damages

 

Grading Policies

 

Absences:

  1. Per each absent day students are given two days to make up the missed work. Example: If a student is absent Monday the missing work is due in class that Wednesday. Absence policy applies to excused, unexcused or other absenteeism.

  2. It is the student’s responsibility to gather and complete all missing work and to meet the deadline.

Late Work:

  1. Late work is accepted with a 5% point deduction for each day late.

  2. Late work is NOT accepted electronically but must be turned in during class.

 

Participation Grade: 10 points per day

  1. Openers: The opener is to be completed in the notebook each day, properly labeled and thoroughly answered.

  2. Class Notes: It is expected that all students take thorough notes on the lecture each class. Notes will be scored on competency, understanding and completion.

  3. Vocabulary words: All of the vocabulary words presented during lecture must be copied into their notes and properly labeled.

  4. Exit Ticket: The question must be answered accurately, in depth and evidence based.

 

Homework: varied point value

  1. Homework assignments will vary from single sheets, essays or journaling. The details for these assignments will be handed out in class or posted to the website for clarification.

  2. Late assignments will be accepted with a 5% point deduction per day late.

  3. Please email the instructor with questions as soon as possible.

 

Quizzes: 10 points each

  1. A quiz will be given at the start of each week with additional pop quizzes throughout the week. Formatting for the quiz may include multiple choice, true or false, essay, fill in the blank, short answer or matching.

 

Exams: 100 points each

  1. There are four unit exams in this course. Exams cover all material presented within the unit but cumulatively connect material to previous units. The final exam is cumulative. Exams are formatted with essay questions, true or false, multiple choice, matching, or short answer.

 

Plagiarism:

All unauthentic work will receive the marks of zero and will be reported to administration for further disciplinary action.

Parental Engagement:

  1. I appreciate the opportunity to work with supportive parents and  invite all parents to contact me via email with any questions or concerns that may arise during the semester.

  2. Parents will be contacted if the grade drops below a C-.

  3. It is expected that parents have access to Infinite Campus as the grades are updated frequently and this is an important resource. If you don’t have access please let me know and we would be happy to help you.
