Information from Chapter 5: Family Relationships

Family Forms:

  1. Nuclear Family:consists of a couple and their child or children living together in one household.

  2. Single-Parent Family: is a family were only one parent lives with the child or children

  3. Extended Family: a group of close relatives that live together

  4. Blended Family: consists of a biological parent, a step parent, and the children of one or both parents

  5. Foster Family: an adult or couple cares for children whose biological parents are unable to care for them

  6. Other Family: groups of people who don't fall into one of the other categories

Additional  Vocabulary:

  1. separation: an arrangement where spouses live apart and try to work out their problems

  2. Domestic abuse: the abuse of a spouse

  3. Physical abuse: is intentionally causing physical harm to another person

  4. Sexual abuse: when an adult uses a child or adolescent for sexual purposes

  5. Emotional abuse: the non-physical mistreatment of a person

  6. runaway: is a child who leaves home without permission and stays away for at least one night or two nights for teens 15 or older
